Community

We love being a part of the Perth Hills and the wider Shire of Mundaring, City of Swan areas. Students from schools across the region gather to learn together at Ms Calleja’s Classroom and parents stop to chat at each pick up.

Inclusion

Ms Calleja’s Classroom is a safe space for people of all backgrounds. We embrace diversity and value multi-culturalism and all faiths. We are disability friendly and have an accessible bathroom and ramp to the classroom. We are an LGBTQI safe space.

Trauma-Informed

We recognise that safety is a pre-requisite for learning. Ms Calleja is trained in Trauma-Informed Practice and is adept in utilising strategies to assist people to calm their nervous systems so they are able to thrive and grow.

Creativity

Multi-sensory strategies help cement learning, play and curiosity are wonderful for creating the conditions for putting new ideas into long term memory. Play and enjoyment lead to feelings of belonging. All of these concepts are deeply known by parents and teachers everywhere and now they have the research to back this knowledge up as best practice.

Sustainability

Paper is used several times (back and front) and once used it is shredded for the FOGO bin, used as compost or pulped to make our own paper. Barely used workbooks are used again. Textas and Ink Cartridges are taken to Officeworks to be recycled or disposed of sustainably. We feed chickens, fruit and sometimes pick fruit to eat as a brain break activity.

Neuro-Affirming

Strategies to optimise learning for all brain types are used in lessons, including lowering sensory distractions, increasing sensory inputs, brain breaks, movement and positive self-talk.
