Term 1, 2026
Year of the Snake into Year of the Fire Horse
We finished off the Year of the Snake with a REAL SNAKE (in the chicken coop) so this is a reminder to always wear footwear and to keep your eyes peeled for snakes. The cubby is currently out of bounds. We have galloped along with energy and now it is the holidays – how time flies!
Please let me know if you are not returning or if you need to discuss changing times.
Primary School Groups
We have had a short 9 week term and we have already covered 15 of the 44 phonemes (sounds) and examined the number of ways each sound is written (graphemes). These skills are important for reading and spelling. We have ticked them off on our English Phonic Code posters in our scrapbooks.
We are also practicing fluent reading, comprehension and writing more detailed sentences using conjunctions, phrases, adjectives and correct punctuation. We have explored topics as diverse as International Women’s Day, Harmony Day, Bubbles and the Myth of Icarus, all while practicing the skills of patience, curiosity and perseverance.
High School Groups
Both groups – junior and senior – have been working hard to use their time well and keep up to date with their school assignments and in-class assessments. Time management is one of the most difficult things to master and I am seeing good focus and better organisation from these groups.
Other areas of focus for these groups are deepening comprehension through debate and widening vocabulary, learning analysis techniques and improving persuasive and creative writing skills. Spelling and grammar are always corrected during these sessions.
One on One Students
All one on one students have different focus areas and I am pleased to report that we are seeing all of the students bring determination and a ‘can do’ attitude to all our sessions, even when the going is tough.
At Ms Calleja’s Classroom we care about your kids and strive to create a learning environment where everyone can shine to their full potential.
